A feast for all the senses...
The Hotel Fontana in Nieuweschans holds many small surprises: A wonderful scent wafts from the lavender sauna, and there are regular art exhibitions in the "dressing gown park" ("Bademantelpark")... the house offers specialties to be enjoyed with all the senses.
At the heart of the house is a large thermal swimming pool in the exterior area of the house. The water has a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and a high salt content, which makes the body weightless, taking pressure of muscles and joints and relieving pain. The Hotel Fontana is the first spa centre in the Netherlands, in the province of Frisia. It was built in 1985, after the discovery of a fountain containing a wealth of minerals such as salt, magnesium, iodine and bromide. These minerals make up the basis for the thermal spa and also give the hotel its name: Fontana. A bridge connects the house directly to the city centre.
Small and quiet Bad Nieuweschans is loctated in the Northeast of the Dutch Friesland Province, next to the Dollart (bay west from the estuary mouth of the Ems river) and the German Province Ostfriesland.
The city of Groningen is a one hour drive from the hotel; Bird Observatory in Bad Nieuweschans; Glassblowers in Bad Nieuweschans.
The centre of the hotel is surrounded by walking paths, benches and ponds in the 12 hectare "Bademantelpark", the "dressing gown park". Here, you can go on a discovery tour or relax in one of the hammocks draped in the centre.
Apart from art exhibitions, the park also offers a path specially designed for walking it with bare feet. This walk strengthens the leg muscles, boosts circulation and the direct contact with the earth gives your feet a wonderful feeling.
