She was born in the former GDR, where she was allowed to compete at the 1988 Olympic Games at the age of 16. After reunification, she competed for the FRG and was no less successful. She won a total of thirteen gold medals at various European and World Championships, as well as two bronze medals at the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games. The track and field athlete ended her stellar career in 2005.

Since then, the trained businesswoman for office communication has reoriented herself. Breuer-Springstein has always been drawn to the Baltic Sea. And so it happened that she took up a position as fitness trainer at the Hotel Neptun in Warnemünde. Today, she is the hotel's leisure coordinator.
