The Romantik® Spa Hotel Elixhauser Wirt is one of the most traditional hotels in Austria. Since 1334, it has remained in family ownership as the country’s oldest family-run business and is now managed in the 23rd generation. As a 4-star superior hotel, it combines deep historical roots with modern comfort and positions itself as a stylish wellness and gourmet hotel near Salzburg.
The Romantik® Spa Hotel Elixhauser Wirt combines centuries-old hospitality with a clear commitment to contemporary hotel standards. As Austria’s oldest family-run business, the property has stood for continuity, quality, and a personal style of hosting for almost 700 years. Its architecture and overall concept reflect this unique blend: historic elements such as the over 400-year-old vaulted cellar meet modern extensions like the “Horizont” spa area. Spanning more than 1,500 m², it offers a wellness world with panoramic views of the Salzburg mountains and the city of Salzburg.

At the Romantik® Spa Hotel Elixhauser Wirt, relaxation takes centre stage. The approximately 1,500 m² “SPA Horizont” combines indoor and outdoor wellness facilities, including a panoramic infinity pool, various saunas and steam baths, as well as spacious relaxation areas with views of the Salzburg mountains. The offer is complemented by massages, day spa options, and tailored wellness packages designed specifically for rest and regeneration.
Beauty
The spa area offers a wide range of cosmetic and beauty treatments, including classic facial treatments, manicures and pedicures, as well as services such as waxing and eyebrow and eyelash care. In addition, more advanced treatments are available, such as ultrasound-based therapies and premium skincare lines like Dr. Spiller.

Location and Directions
Our wellness hotel is located
The hotel is located in the village of Elixhausen, just a few kilometers from Salzburg. It sits on the quiet, green outskirts of the UNESCO World Heritage city, combining rural idyll with quick access to the urban life of Mozart’s city.
Arrival with car
If you are coming from Vienna, follow the A1 motorway to the Salzburg Nord exit and then continue towards Braunau/Trumer Seen on the B156 federal road. From Munich or Villach, take the Bergheim Ost exit on the A1 and also follow the B156. Along the way, a clear landmark will guide you: you will pass an Intersport store on your right-hand side. Shortly afterwards, after about one kilometer, you will reach a roundabout – continue straight ahead in the direction of Elixhausen. After approximately four kilometers, you will arrive in the village, where the hotel is centrally located in the town center.
From the city of Salzburg, you can reach Elixhausen via Vogelweiderstraße and Salzburger Straße, which merge into the B156 (Lamprechtshausener Straße).
Please note that a toll vignette is required for Austrian motorways.
For guests with electric vehicles, a charging station is available at the hotel.
Arrival with train
Salzburg Central Station is excellently connected to national and international rail services. From there, bus line 120 takes you directly to the centre of Elixhausen. The journey takes around 20 minutes and is very affordable. The hotel is located just a few steps from the bus stop.
On request, a convenient transfer can also be arranged: for a flat fee, you will be picked up from the station in one of the hotel’s own vehicles. Please let us know in advance of your arrival if you would like to use this service.
Arrival with plane
After landing at Salzburg Airport, the fastest way to reach the hotel is by taxi. The journey is straightforward and will take you directly to the hotel entrance.
