Herbal-stamp massage

Herbal stamp massage - What is it?

In many Far Eastern cultures the herbal stamp massage is one of the traditional healing methods. In Indian Ayurveda, herbal stamp massages with a wide variety of oils are among the typical treatments. Here they are called Pinda Sveda or Pinda Sweda. But also within the traditional Thai massage, this type of treatment with hot herbal bags has a high value and can look back on a tradition of thousands of years.

Irrespective of cultural origins, the holistic approach is always at the centre of treatment with hot herbal stamps. This means that not only the physical complaints are treated, but also the mental and spiritual level is included. The herbal stamp massage not only has a purely relaxing effect but is also intended to release blockages and harmonise the "doshas". The term "Dosha" is an important term in Ayurveda. The Doshas determine the constitution of every single person and regulate their mental and physical functions.

How is the herbal stamp massage performed?

The herbal stamp massage takes place on a comfortable couch or on a mattress on the floor if the treatment is carried out in a Thai massage studio. In traditional Thai massage, the treatment is carried out exclusively with herbal stamps heated in steam, whereas in Indian Ayurveda the herbal stamps are soaked in heated oil, which is then used for the massage. Even during the massage, the herbal bags must be heated again and again. The herbal stamps are silk, cotton or linen cloths filled with selected herbs. These are dipped in warm water or warm oil.

Which herbs for the herbal stamp massage?

The composition of the herbal stamps can be individually adapted to the needs of the individual. There are mixtures for deceleration, detoxification or regeneration. St. John's wort, lime blossom or valerian have a calming effect, while a mixture of lemon balm leaves, chamomile herb and lemon peel is refreshing and stimulating.

How is the treatment of a herbal stamp massage structured?

A herbal stamp massage can be divided into three sections. The relaxation phase, the direct herbal stamp massage and the resting phase.

At the beginning, during the relaxation phase, the area to be massaged is completely rubbed with oil. This already has a very relaxing effect and initiates the herbal stamp massage in a flowing transition. For this, the body of the person to be treated must already be oiled, so that the stamps can then be applied to the body. The herbal stamp massage is characterised, among other things, by thermal stimuli as well as the different touches by the masseur.

He strokes, dabs and taps the herbal stamps over the area to be treated. He carries out the movements alternating from fast to slow, with circular movements and with classical massage grips. The cooler the stamps become, the more intensive and slow the therapist can perform the movements. The stamps are warmed up again and again in between. After the treatment phase with the herbal stamps, the resting and feeling phase begins.

How long does a herbal stamp massage last?

You should plan a little more time for a herbal stamp massage - the treatment takes a little longer due to the repeated warming of the herbal stamps in combination with classic massage grips. A massage with herbal stamps usually lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.
