What's a Black Roll?
For the self-massage of the fascia a special massage roller, the so-called black roll, can be used. Fascia is the connective tissue that pervades the entire body and surrounds and connects all the muscles, organs, vessels and nerves in the body.
The Blackroll is designed to stretch and dilate this fascial tissue and thus loosen indurations.
There are different kinds of Blackrolls, varying in their hardness grades. Beginners may start with a medium hardness grade. In addition, there are also Blackroll balls, which are especially made for

The blackroll ball has a deepening right in the middle and is suitable to treat the spine, especially the cervical spine.
People who suffer from limited mobility due to leg and hip issues can make use of the Blackroll while standing. To train the lumbar spine the Blackroll is placed between the lower back and a wall and is then moved with the help of light knee bends. By moving the upper body towards the left or the right one can easily vary the pressure from one side to the other.
To massage the thoracic spine the Blackroll
is placed between a wall and shoulder blades. Again with the help of light knee bends the pressure and sides to be massaged are easily varied.
The exercises with the Blackroll are not complicated
and quite easy to learn. Particularly tense muscles can be sensitive to black roll at the beginning of the massage. These places are called "trigger points". Exactly these muscle tensions are to be solved by the self-massage with the Blackroll. The fascia relaxes and this should contribute to better health and functionality.
