Wellness dictionary

Little ABC for your spa-break questions ...

In their treatment discriptions, wellness hotels often use technical terms, which are hard to understand for potential guests. We have therefore collected and defined the most relevant terms in our small wellness ABC. A tip: Our wellness dictionary also supports word requests. You don't need to know the exact wording.

Aloe Vera Leaf

The basis of all aloe vera products are the aloe vera leaves.

The sword-shaped leaf weighs about 300-600 grams and is sufficient for one person for about one week. If the leaf has not yet been cut, it will keep at room temperature for about 4-6 weeks.

Where can I buy an Aloe Vera leaf?

In the first place you should look for organic quality when buying an aloe vera plant or a single leaf. Organic aloe vera is grown without pesticides, which is a particularly important prerequisite if the medicinal plant is to be used later for skin care or consumption. High quality, fresh and organically grown aloe vera (leaves) can be bought online or in organic stores.

The healing gel in the Aloe Vera leaf

With its firm, green shell, aloe vera protects its inner, healing gel against sunlight and wind. The Aloe Vera gel consists of over 200 substances that have an antioxidant, regenerating, cell-renewing, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing effect on the skin. The reason for this are the many vitamins, minerals, secondary plant substances and amino acids.

How to obtain the Aloe Vera Gel

First, the lower white edge piece is cut off before the remaining sheet is cut into slices of 2-3 cm length with a knife. The thorny edge pieces on the right and left are also removed again. When cut, the aloe vera leaf should be stored in a cool place in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. It is best to wrap the slices with cling film or damp kitchen paper.

To use the pure gel filet, cut off the outer shell with a large distance to the aloin-containing leaf fibers on both sides, so that only the slippery and slimy gel filet remains. Finally, the fillet can be turned into a homogeneous mass with the mixer.

Aloe Vera leaf as moisture booster

The pure fillet from the aloe vera leaf provides the skin with a special moisturizing kick. For this purpose the gel can be easily applied to the face or body without having to be washed off. To lock the moisture of the plant into the skin, a native oil or cream can be applied over it afterwards. It is especially worthwhile to use the gel for sunburn and other wounds as it cools the skin and has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects.
